Christmas Wishes From Dr Alex McIntosh

Christmas wishes from Dr Alex McIntosh, McIntosh DentalIt has been a very challenging year for all of us New Zealanders this year, but with true pragmatism Kiwis have followed the rules and we are in better shape than most countries around the world. I am very proud of our teams here at McIntosh Dental and Fraser Dental. We organized very early when the Covid-19 pandemic struck and we were prepared and able to offer emergency dental care for both our patients and patients from other practices during both lockdown periods. We were able to do this as we had plentiful supplies of Personal Protective Equipment, we are very familiar with the sterile technique of delivering dental care, we put in Laminar Air Flow, Hepa air filters and negative air pressure in our treatment rooms which made our practices amongst the safest – if not the safest – dental surgeries in New Zealand in which to provide treatment for both our patients and our staff. Our staff were organised into four teams (bubbles) who rotated through the surgeries every four days providing emergency care seven days a week during the lockdowns. We were very busy and our staff volunteered their time to treat over 400 patients during the lockdowns and I am very proud of them for doing this. A lot of people were relieved of pain and infection during this time. I have been told many times over the years by our patients that there is nothing worse than tooth pain, so we were very happy to give many people relief during a very stressful time.

As Christmas approaches I wish to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and that 2021 will be a year full of happiness and good health, especially now that the Covid-19 vaccine will be available from April onwards. I encourage everyone to get the vaccination for Covid-19 not only for yourself but also for the benefit of your loved ones, especially for your elderly friends and relatives.

With my very best regards to all, Alex McIntosh
