Dental Examinations

Our highly qualified Dentists conduct thorough examinations of your teeth and gums, assessing any potential issues or causes for concern.

We take the time to discuss your examination with you. If we do diagnose any issues we will go through recommended treatment options in detail to ensure you are fully aware of the problems and how they can best be treated. We will also discuss how long treatment may take, and of course the costs involved – including payment plan[LINK] options.

We recommend having dental examinations annually. They can even help save you money in the long run by catching oral health problems early when they are more treatable. And because poor oral health[LINK] can contribute to other health issues such as strokes, heart attacks or cardiovascular disease, regular dental exams are a great investment in your future well-being.

X-Rays

Dental x-rays go hand-in-hand with visual examinations. When it comes to your mouth we need to be able to see beneath the surface, or we will only have half of the information. Not only do x-rays help us to diagnose any current issues with your teeth, they are also an essential preventative step as they allow us to detect potential oral care issues before they develop into major problems.

X-rays allow our Dentists to see inside a tooth and beneath the gums so they are effective in diagnosing cavities, gum disease and some types of infections, as well as allowing us to check the status of developing teeth.

Some types of dental x-rays are taken inside the mouth and others are taken outside of the mouth depending on the type of dental treatment you require. They are completely pain-free, quick and safe to undergo. How often you need to have x-rays taken will depend on your oral health. While some people with oral health issues may require x-rays every six months, others who have regular dental check-ups and good oral health may only need x-rays every couple of years.

Our comprehensive x-ray facilities here at McIntosh Dental include a dental Cone Beam CT scanner, which uses advanced technology to provide 3D images of your teeth and jaws. It produces high-quality, detailed images and is particularly useful for diagnosis and treatment planning for dental implants[LINK].
