Dental emergency, toothacheAt Alert Levels 4 and 3, dental clinics are closed for regular appointments and only some are open for providing emergency dental treatments. McIntosh Dental is open for dental emergencies and if you have any issue in your mouth, we recommend calling us for advice. We will initially conduct a clinical assessment over the phone, and in some cases may even request that you send through a photo. This will enable us to expertly assess if you require emergency treatment or not. Problems in your mouth can escalate quickly, so if in doubt always reach out to us.

Examples of Dental Emergencies

Sometimes a dental emergency is quite obvious, like if you’ve knocked out or chipped a tooth. But other times you might have a niggling problem and are not sure when you should seek professional advice – especially during a pandemic! Problems in your mouth could include:

  • Sore, painful tooth/teeth
  • Knocked out, broken or chipped tooth/teeth
  • Lost, broken or chipped filling
  • Swelling in the mouth
  • Pain in the jaw
  • Red gums or ulcers
  • Broken orthodontic brackets, wires, retainers or appliances
  • Painful wisdom tooth/teeth
  • Bleeding in the mouth
