Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination for this year’s Orthodontic Scholarship. We received a record number of entries and it really was a tough job to select the finalists.

After much deliberation, the Scholarship Committee is excited to announce that the Orthodontic Scholarship Winners 2020 are: Waimarie Peters from Waitakere College and Logan Taylor from Henderson High School.

Waimarie Peters

Waimarie is a Year 12 student at Waitakere College. She is a hard worker who sets high standards for herself and has achieved exemplary academic results at both intermediate and college. Last year she achieved NCEA Level 1 with Excellence and her awards included several Top Scholar awards and the Mana Maori Award for High Level of Academic Achievement, among others.

She began learning classical guitar at just 5 years old and is now an accomplished electric guitarist, playing regularly in school productions and events. This year she is a Peer Mentor at school and takes every opportunity to get involved and support both her school and the wider community. She plans to pursue a career in the health and medical field.

We are so delighted to be able to offer Waimarie the Orthodontic Scholarship to give her a beautiful, straight smile that she will love to share!

Logan Taylor

Logan Taylor is a Year 9 student at Henderson High School. Logan is a high-achieving academic student in all areas of the school curriculum. Based on his excellent results at intermediate he was one of only a few students to win an Academic Scholarship to attend Henderson High School this year, where he is in their A-stream class.

Like Waimarie, Logan is also a skilled guitarist and has participated in musical events at both intermediate and high school. He loves to sing and act and has played lead roles in three stage shows, including larger-than-life TV show host Corny Collins in the musical Hairspray.

Logan also excels at football and has already embraced numerous opportunities to support his school community. He was Deputy Head Boy at intermediate.

Logan gives everything he does 100% and we are so excited to give him this opportunity to keep his confidence and self-esteem with a wonderful smile.
